The RoleWe are seeking a compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join our Resource Base team. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to help children with ASD access the curriculum, develop essential social and communication skills, and achieve their individual learning goals. Main Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with ASD.
  • Help implement individual education plans and behaviour support plans.
  • Use structured teaching approaches, including visual supports and sensory tools, to support learning.
  • Encourage the development of social interaction, communication, and self-regulation skills.
  • Support students with transitions, routines, and sensory needs throughout the school day.
  • Manage challenging behaviour calmly and effectively.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to ensure consistent and tailored support.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience working with children with ASD or in a SEND setting.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges faced by children with autism.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships and maintain a calm and patient approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Flexibility, resilience, and a commitment to supporting children's well-being and development.

Desirable Criteria

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, SEND-related training).
  • Experience using strategies such as TEACCH, PECS, or Makaton.
  • Knowledge of sensory processing needs and strategies.
