Finance Officer

Salary: £40-45,000 per annum + 25 days holiday allowance + Bank Holidays, Private Medial, Pension, Cash Plan, Parking +++ Hours: 8.30-5pm - Onsite - Monday - Friday.

Location: Tunbridge Wells Reporting to: Finance DirectorTeam: Supportive and upbeat Finance team of four, part of a large reputable organisation based in Tunbridge Wells.

Role Overview: As a Senior Finance Officer, you will manage, oversee, and actively participate in all aspects of the Finance Department to ensure the timely and accurate production of financial and management reports. You will play a key role in financial reporting, reconciliations, payroll processing, compliance, and external reporting.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial & Management Reporting
  • Lead the preparation of monthly financial and management accounts for review by the Finance Director before submission to the Board of Directors, including:
    • Profit and Loss accounts
    • Balance sheets
    • Departmental P&Ls
    • Cash, debtor, and creditor analysis
    • Other financial schedules as required
  • Oversee and ensure accuracy in key reconciliations, such as bank, cash, and control accounts, VAT, PAYE, and National Insurance.
  • Manage and calculate accounting adjustments for:
    • Stock valuation
    • Work-in-progress and long-term contract adjustments
    • Accruals and prepayments
    • Contracts in advance, bad debt provisions, and other financial provisions
  • Monitor actual income and expenditure against budget/forecast (Job Costing), investigate variances, and report findings.
  • Process monthly payroll, including:
    • Payrolling Benefits, RTI submissions, electronic payslips, P45s, and P60s
    • Accurate reporting of payroll liabilities (PAYE, National Insurance)
  • Enter financial transactions (customer, supplier, bank, stock, etc.) to maintain timely reporting and provide cover for staff absences.
  • Post Nominal & Job Costing Daybooks daily.
  • Maintain an up-to-date and secure filing system, ensuring compliance with company policies and financial regulations.
  • Jointly manage the audit process with the Finance Director, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Oversee and manage compliance audits and inspections from HMRC.
  • Prepare and submit HMRC VAT returns accurately and on time.
  • Ensure all required returns/submissions to HMRC and Companies House are completed, ensuring full compliance with financial and legal obligations.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Relevant commercial Financial Based Experience
  • Studying towards an accountancy qualification (AAT Level 3 or higher desirable) or equivalent.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Access is desirable.
  • Experience with digital financial systems in a commercial environment
  • Strong understanding of construction industry finance, including subcontracts, applications for payment, client certification, and retention's.
  • Knowledge of key financial legislation, such as:
    • Construction Industry Scheme
    • Domestic Reverse Charge for Construction (VAT)
    • Off-Payroll Working (IR35)
  • Proven experience in preparing high-quality management accounts and financial reports.
  • Experience managing financial operations, ideally supporting c150 employees
  • Willingness to undergo training and continuously develop professional knowledge.
