We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SENCO to join our vibrant secondary school located in the Tonbridge area. This is a permanent position ideal for someone passionate about supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The successful candidate will lead and manage the provision of special education within our school, ensuring all students have access to high-quality learning and are able to achieve their full potential.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the school’s SEN policy.
  • Lead the SEN team to assess and support students with identified learning needs.
  • Coordinate provision for children with SEN, including managing the resources and staff involved in this provision.
  • Liaise with teachers, parents, and external professionals such as educational psychologists and health care professionals.
  • Ensure that SEN records are up-to-date and that individual education plans (IEPs) are developed for students.
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents, and other agencies.
  • Organize and participate in training sessions and meetings as required.
  • Develop and monitor effective practices for pupils needing additional support.
  • Ensure that the school meets its responsibilities under the Equality Act (2010) with regard to reasonable adjustments and access arrangements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a recognised teaching qualification.
  • National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination or willingness to work towards it.
  • Proven experience as a SENCO or in a similar role within a secondary educational setting.
  • In-depth understanding of the UK SEN legal framework, including the SEN Code of Practice.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, parents, and external bodies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion and professionalism.
