We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our Year 3 team. This job is for a wonderful opportunity to work 1:1 with a child with autism and make a real difference in their educational development.

Role Overview:As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work 1:1 with a child with autism in a Year 3 class. You will provide tailored support to help the child access the curriculum and develop their social, emotional, and academic skills. You will work closely with the class teacher and the school’s SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to create and implement strategies that foster a positive and inclusive learning environment. This job outlines a role where your contribution will directly support the child’s learning experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the child’s learning and social development in the classroom, ensuring they can fully engage in class activities.

  • Implement strategies and interventions to help the child with their communication, social skills, and behavior.

  • Foster a nurturing environment that supports the child’s confidence and emotional well-being.

  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and parents to monitor and review progress.

  • Maintain accurate records of the child’s development and report on progress when necessary.

  • Provide feedback to the child and encourage independence while ensuring they feel supported.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working with children with autism or other special educational needs is desirable but not essential.

  • A caring and empathetic approach to supporting children’s individual needs.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • A positive attitude and a commitment to helping every child achieve their full potential.

  • Patience, creativity, and the ability to adapt to the child’s individual learning style.

Desirable:

  • Training or qualifications in supporting children with autism (e.g., Autism Awareness, Team Teach, or similar).

  • Experience in a primary school setting or a similar educational environment.
