Reed Finance are exclusively partnered with a client in the Uckfield area who are seeking an experienced Accountant to join their friendly team and support the Company Accountant. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of maintaining records, preparing accounts, VAT Returns, and reports across multiple companies. This is a hands-on role that may require assistance with daily documentation, transactions, payments, and filing during busy periods. Attention to detail and the ability to work independently are crucial for this position.
Day-to-day duties as Accountant:
- Manage, support, and develop an accounts team of 9 with 3 direct reports.
- Ensure accurate records are kept for all group and associated entities.
- Prepare and review accounts for multiple companies.
- Prepare, review, and submit monthly & quarterly VAT returns for multiple companies.
- Assist with tax records and returns for the company, employees, and directors, including P11 and Self-Assessment.
- Administer the company pension scheme.
- Provide ad hoc reporting as required by the business.
- Develop and improve accounting systems, processes, and reporting.
- Administer insurance cover across the group.
- Manage rental income & expenditure, debtors, and track property leases, including the development of systems and records.
- Handle Companies House administration and provide legislative guidance.
- Assist with the annual audit and tax calculations.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Meticulous attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
- Proactive can-do approach with the ability to work independently.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position.
- Strong reconciliation experience (Sales, Bank, Purchase Ledger, Payroll, VAT, etc.).
- Competent user of Sage 50 Accounts, Excel, and MS Office.
- Good working knowledge of VAT legislation and Making Tax Digital (MTD).
- Management experience, including coaching and development of a team.
- Ability to discuss financial performance and accounting requirements at all levels with both financial and non-financial staff.
Desirable:
- Qualified or in the latter stages of an accounting qualification.
- Experience in accounts within a large retail company.
- Experience with software implementation.
