Location: Uckfield, East Sussex

Hours: Mon-Friday 9am-5.30pm based in office

Salary: £28-30,000 per annum + excellent benefits

Our client, a leading law firm is seeking a talented Litigation Fee Earner to join their dedicated team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual with relevant studies (CILEX, Law Degree or equivalent) looking to develop their career in the legal field.

Working in our client's thriving landlord and tenant department, you will be part of a dynamic team consisting of 3 experienced litigation fee earners, overseen by a solicitor, and 4 case handlers. In this role, you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day management of the department's caseload, including contentious and defended matters.

What you'll be doing:

  • Undertaking fee-earning work with supervision and providing support to the landlord and tenant department.
  • Gaining technical experience to handle defended and complex cases, particularly those allocated to the fast track and/or multi-track.
  • Drafting appropriate documents and complying with court directions and orders.
  • Working towards the ability to handle smaller matters independently and providing effective support on larger matters.
  • Corresponding with clients and other relevant parties, such as the court, solicitors, and managing agents.
  • Liaising with clients to provide updates on case status.
  • Issuing possession claims using the possession claims online system.
  • Completing paper applications for the court, including manual possession applications and warrant applications.
  • Instructing advocates and counsel as required.
  • Producing notices seeking possessions.
  • Updating case management information spreadsheets.

What we're looking for:

  • Ideally Paralegal/fee earning experience, ideally within civil litigation, dispute resolution, or landlord and tenant matters.
  • Relevant Legal Qualification - CILEX, Law Degree or similar
  • Good knowledge of landlord and tenant law. However, in-house training can effectively train Landlord and Tenant knowledge for any candidate without specific knowledge.
  • Familiarity with the Civil Procedure Rules and litigation procedures.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Excellent organisational and self-motivation abilities.
  • Confidence in a small team environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to confidently speak with clients and third parties over the phone.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritise tasks.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
