Job Title: Graduate Geotechnical Engineer

Location: Nationwide site visits

Salary: Dependant on experience

Hours: Full time – Monday – Friday 9:00-17:00 (midweek and weekend overtime available)

About the role

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to join our team within the rail industry. This entry-level role offers an exciting opportunity for recent graduates with a background in Geotechnical Engineering to gain hands-on experience and contribute to key rail infrastructure projects. You will work alongside senior engineers and technical specialists, assisting in geotechnical investigations, data analysis, and the design and implementation of geotechnical solutions for rail projects.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: A degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field. A master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related disciplines is a plus but not essential.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with geotechnical testing methods, data interpretation, and basic geotechnical design principles. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and an understanding of specialized geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GEO5, or similar) is advantageous but not essential.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings clearly and concisely.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen interest in geotechnical engineering challenges and solutions.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues across various disciplines, including engineers, contractors, and clients.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail and accuracy when collecting and interpreting data, writing reports, and supporting design efforts.
  • Motivation and Initiative: Eagerness to learn, develop, and grow professionally in the field of geotechnical engineering, with a particular focus on rail infrastructure projects.
  • Health and Safety Awareness: Knowledge of health and safety regulations and an understanding of how they apply to site-based activities.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with geotechnical investigation techniques (e.g., borehole drilling, soil sampling, in-situ testing).
  • Awareness of rail engineering principles and the integration of geotechnical factors in rail infrastructure.
  • Previous internship or work experience in geotechnical or civil engineering, particularly within the rail or transportation sector.
