Job Title: Buyer - Civils Contractor

About the Company:
We are a well-established civils contractor based in Manchester, specializing in providing high-quality services across the construction industry. We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven Buyer to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a couple of years of experience in construction or purchasing to further their career within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Procurement of Materials & Equipment: Source and purchase construction materials, tools, and plant equipment as per project specifications.
Vendor Management:
Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and negotiate pricing and terms to ensure value for money.
Inventory Management:
Monitor stock levels, ensuring the availability of materials and equipment as required for ongoing and upcoming projects. Coordinate with suppliers to manage lead times effectively.
Collaboration with Site & Project Managers:
Work closely with Site and Project Managers to ensure that procurement activities align with project timelines and requirements.
Record Keeping & Reporting:
Maintain accurate and detailed records of purchases, expenditures, and vendor communications. Regularly update and report on procurement progress and any potential issues.
Cost Control: Assist in managing budgets and ensuring that procurement activities are cost-effective and stay within project financial parameters.
Candidate Requirements:
Qualifications: Degree qualified (preferably in Construction Management, Business, or a related field).
Experience: A couple of years' experience in purchasing, ideally within the construction or civils industry. General construction experience is acceptable, as the focus is on purchasing materials and plant from a specification.
Skills & Knowledge:
Strong understanding of construction materials, plant, and tools.
Ability to negotiate effectively with vendors and manage supplier relationships.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, for managing records and inventories.
