RT32 - Lecturer in English (GCSE & Functional Skills)Salary: £16,228 - £22,630 Per annumLocation: Uxbridge/HayesOverviewFirst Military Recruitment are seeking a part time Lecturer on behalf of a renowned client, to deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English within their cross-college provision, primarily to vocational learners aged 16-18. You must be available to work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.This is a challenging and rewarding area of the College. You would play a key role in supporting vocational learners with their development and to help them progress onto higher courses or the workplace. You would join a team of skilled teachers with a wealth of experience and knowledge, who are pro-active in sharing best practice with the team in order to engage with and enthuse resit learners. Ex-Military are encouraged to apply however all applications will be considered.Duties & Responsibilities

  • Part time - 18 Hours per week (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday with flexibility to change according to curriculum needs).
  • Teach on a range of programmes in the relevant subject area, including GCSE English and Functional Skills English.
  • Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans and resource materials for teaching programmes.
  • Utilise IT and learning technology to deliver elements of the curriculum.
  • Prepare assessment plans and schedules and ensure students are aware of your expectations.
  • Assess students’ progress regularly including the timely marking of work and giving feedback, both written and oral.
  • Work towards the integration of students’ basic skills’ development in the delivery of teaching and learning.
  • Promote Equal Opportunities and implement the College’s Equality and Diversity Policy and Safeguarding Policy.
  • Provide a secure, safe and friendly learning environment including implementation of College’s Health & Safety Policy.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in English or related subject (or minimum of Level 3 qualification plus proven successful experience of teaching GCSE English for at least 2 years).
  • Minimum Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector (e.g. DET, PGCE)**, or willing to obtain this, supported by the College.
  • Experience of teaching or tutoring GCSE and/or Functional Skills English.
  • The ability to engage and enthuse vocational learners aged 16-18.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour of students effectively and engage reluctant learners.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • High standard of literacy.
  • Good teaching practice.
  • Understanding of and commitment to Equality, Diversity and Safeguarding.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity towards the different learning needs of students.
  • Commitment to learners and learner achievement.
