Civil Engineering - Infrastructure and Highways Sector

This Civils Contractor operates in a specialist sector with great opportunities for growth, and we are currently looking to recruit a customer orientated and dedicated Estimator.

About the role of Estimator

We carry out repairs to bridges and other highway structures which include installing bridge expansion joints, bridge deck waterproofing, bridge bearings and concrete repairs. The Estimator's role is an exciting role to support the commercial function and will be pivotal in assisting the Company to secure new business.

We would love to hear from you if you have a similar role within Highways / Civils, or perhaps work in another area of Construction where your estimating role covers complete structures.

Responsibilities for the Estimator

Estimating architectural metalwork, secondary steelwork and structural steel.

  • Reading civil engineering design drawings
  • Material takes off's and tender summaries
  • Obtaining supplier quotations and negotiating
  • Preparing quotations to meet deadlines
  • Drafting detailed quotation
  • Liaising with clients to discuss the tender submissions
  • Quantifying material take offs and producing costs analysis for clients and the management team.
  • Monthly job costing forecasts and analysis
  • Attending client meetings and occasional site visits
  • Assisting with monthly applications and final accounts
  • Working with other departments

Requirements for Estimator

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent telephone manner - can communicate effectively, efficiently and professionally to all customers
  • A logical thought process to resolve queries
  • Outstanding organisational skills
  • Ability to work on own, demonstrating drive and initiative
  • Team player, willing to share ideas and techniques with other team colleagues to improve the business
  • Knowledge of the construction sector is desirable, but not essential.
  • Previous sales coordination or similar experience preferred
