Temporary role 3-6 months, charity sector, based in Wakefield. The RoleThe Payroll Officer will assist with processing payroll, ensuring accurate calculations and compliance with regulations. They will manage employee records, benefits, and deductions while handling payroll-related queries. Additionally, they will work with external agencies and ensure all payments are processed correctly.Responsibilities:

  • Assist in processing three monthly payrolls, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Input variable pay data (e.g., hours, sleep-ins, on-calls) and calculate deductions/payments.
  • Process starter and leaver information, including redundancy and re-grades.
  • Monitor statutory payments and ensure adherence to legislation.
  • Administer company benefits and manage earnings orders.
  • Generate payroll reports and address related queries.
  • Liaise with HR, managers, and external agencies regarding payroll matters.
  • Verify payroll data accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support the Deputy Payroll Manager in maintaining payroll procedures.
  • Produce government payroll statistics and reports.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proficiency in payroll systems, MS Office, and HMRC legislation.
  • Payroll processing experience, ideally with a qualification in payroll.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to report payroll data in a clear, non-technical manner.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to supervise Payroll Assistants when required.
  • Understanding of pay scales, stakeholder pensions, and auto-enrolment.
  • Knowledge of Payrite software, familiarity with Teacher's Pensions and salary sacrifice schemes
