Job Title: Welding & Quality ManagerSalary: £58,000 - £62,000 Wakefield Reporting to: Senior ManagementRole Overview:The Welding & Quality Manager will oversee all welding and quality-related activities within the factory, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company procedures. You will be responsible for leading the implementation of quality processes, managing welders and consumables, and ensuring that all work meets the highest health, safety, and environmental standards.Key Responsibilities:

  • Review customer specifications for welding and quality requirements before and after contract award, working closely with Sales, Engineering, and Projects teams.
  • Analyse drawings to ensure compliance with welding and quality standards.
  • Lead the adoption of group-wide quality procedures and best practices.
  • Act as the primary link between manufacturing and installation teams.
  • Manage the storage, handling, and traceability of consumables and materials.
  • Prepare Inspection & Test/Quality Plans.
  • Select the most suitable weld process for each project.
  • Calculate the required welding consumables (wire & gas) for projects.
  • Oversee welder prolongations and conduct welder audits.
  • Organise and execute welding procedures and welder qualifications.
  • Maintain all welding documentation within company and proprietary software systems.
  • Perform quality control and traceability checks within the factory, promoting continuous improvement.
  • Lead quality audits and represent the company in customer quality meetings.
  • Coordinate with NDT teams, third-party inspectors, and customers during inspection visits.
  • Manage the company's Welding and Quality Management Systems (9001, 14001, 3834, 1090, etc.).
  • Investigate and resolve any quality issues, customer complaints, or NCRs.
  • Conduct supplier and subcontractor audits to ensure they meet company standards.
  • Review and approve final technical and quality documentation for submission to customers.
  • Take a proactive approach to health, safety, and environmental concerns in all operations.
  • Ensure all work is performed to the agreed HS&E and quality standards.
  • Ensure completion of all documentation in line with company procedures and contract requirements.
  • Identify and recommend training for yourself and team members.
  • Participate in site and customer visits as needed.
  • Assist with the recruitment of welding personnel.
  • Mentor and train inspection and quality staff within the department.

Essential Qualifications:

  • IWT/EWT/TWI Diploma in Welding Technology
  • CSWIP 3.2 Certification
  • Preferred Qualifications (Not Essential):
  • IWE/EWE/TWI Diploma in Welding Engineering
  • HND/HNC in Fabrication and Welding

Skills & Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of welding metallurgy, materials, and consumables.
  • Experience in welding coordination (RWC) roles.
  • Proven background in quality management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with welding processes and safety regulations.
  • In-depth understanding of industry codes and standards (EN ISO, ASME, API).
  • Strong communication, organisational, leadership, and management abilities.
