Reed Education is looking for a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team at a well-regarded primary school in Wakefield. This position involves providing individualized supporting a child with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This role offers a wonderful opportunity to positively impact a young child's educational experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Personalized Support: Offer one-on-one assistance to a child, ensuring they are fully engaged in classroom activities and can access the curriculum.
  • Lesson Customisation: Work closely with the class teacher to modify lessons to suit the child's unique needs, utilizing visual aids, communication tools (e.g., Makaton, PECS), and sensory activities.
  • Nurturing Environment: Foster a supportive atmosphere where the child feels safe, secure, and able to participate fully.
  • Communication Assistance: Implement alternative communication methods (e.g., sign language, picture systems, tech-based solutions) to help the child express themselves.
  • Social Development: Promote the child's social skills by encouraging positive interactions with peers and inclusion in group activities.
  • Progress Tracking: Collaborate with the school's SENCO to monitor the child's progress and develop strategies for ongoing improvement.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience working with children, especially those with special educational needs (SEN).
  • Strong understanding of non-verbal communication and familiarity with communication tools (e.g., Makaton, PECS, or similar).
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support children with additional needs.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff.
  • Previous experience in an educational setting is ideally required.
