Here at Hays, we are recruiting for a Purchasing Manager based in Wakefield, this role will sit within the Group function of the company, and you will be responsible for ensuring the Group has a competitive range of products for all sectors. This is a full-time position, with 3 days required at the Wakefield office and you may also be expected to travel internationally. This role is paying circa £45,000 per annum, along with great company benefits. As Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for being in contact with suppliers and the products within the organisation, you will be liaising between suppliers and different departments in the business. You will be managing the relationship to benefit the Group and ensuring that the suppliers are engaged and getting the most out of the Group. Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Negotiate with suppliers to achieve best business package for the company including agreeing terms for rebates, MDF, annual & quarterly targets.
  • Support the Category Manager to build category plans for key suppliers/key categories that support growth and aspiration plans for the company
  • Understand the category, competitors, suppliers & market dynamics
  • To develop and communicate knowledge of the UK&I market and trends in order to define the vendors for the category
  • Identification & development of long-term suppliers for existing and new products in accordance with the business strategy and range control plans
  • Source, evaluate and select new products to present to the Category Manager
  • Manage the full processes of bringing new products to market including internal communication with the relevant departments, key areas being inventory, operations and marketing.
  • Manage all supplier relationships, including product set-up, pricing, stock issues, rebates, price protection and customer queries

Experience required for the role:

  • Time management, and ability to meet goals, deadlines and workload
  • Strong communication skills and a high level of professionalism to work with senior suppliers contacts
  • Understanding of end-to-end sales process including pricing & operations
  • Strong negotiating and supplier management skills
  • Experience developing strong supplier relationships
  • Proven buying experience with manufacturers and major international brands
  • Proven success in a commercial environment
