Prospero Teaching are looking for BSL Teaching Assistant to work as part of a Hearing Impairment Team to support pupils within various Primary Schools across Gateshead. The role will involve supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis across a range of Primary School year groups.

Due to the nature of the role, it is a requirement that the successful Candidate is able to drive and has access to a car. Mileage will be paid in addition to the weekly rate.

The roles available are full-time and long-term. For the right candidates, there is the strong possibility that the role will become permanent if this is your preference.

A key part of the role will be to work effectively alongside Class Teachers and other Teaching Assistants within different schools to ensure all pupils receive the best possible levels of support that are suited to their individual learning styles and needs.

The role will also involve supporting utilising a range of different strategies to connect with pupils and promote progress. As a result, your adaptability, resilience, and relationship-building skills as a practitioner will be key.

This role will involve:

  • Working as part of the Hearing Impairment Team to support pupils with BSL on a 1:1 basis.
  • Working with pupils across a range of Primary School year groups.
  • Managing challenging behaviour in a positive and consistent manner.
  • Differentiating learning to suit the needs and learning styles of pupils.
  • Building positive relationships with Class Teachers and other Learning Support Assistants to provide outstanding levels of support to pupils.
  • Having a "hands on" approach to supporting children in their learning, with a willingness to interact with pupils and engage with them.
  • Utilising a range of approaches and assessment strategies to meet the needs of all pupils.

This role requires:

  • An Enhanced DBS (ideally on the Update Service but this is not essential as we can process a new one for you)
  • A BSL qualification
  • Experience of supporting pupils with BSL on a 1:1 basis.
  • An ability to build positive relationships and a rapport with pupils and staff.
  • A resilient, proactive, and positive nature
  • Experience in classrooms supporting students.
  • High levels of enthusiasm, energy and positivity when working with pupils.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people to fulfil their potential and flourish in education.
  • An enthusiastic approach and a willingness to engage with and form positive relationships with pupils.
