Join Tyne Metropolitan College, a leader in educational opportunities and specialist maritime training, as a Learning Support Assistant. We are dedicated to providing dynamic and diverse curriculum and are seeking professional staff who are passionate about supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide individual or group support to students with SEND, both inside and outside the classroom
  • Facilitate and support students under the direction of teaching colleagues to maximise their lesson benefits and reach their full potential.
  • Contribute to the personal and academic development of learners, promote independence, and encourage self-advocacy.
  • Support learners in various college environments, including classrooms, Learning Resource Centres, and communal areas, as well as on educational visits and external activities when appropriate.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining individual learning plans and health-related plans, including therapies like SaLT, Physio, or OT.
  • Prepare, adapt, and organise learning resources and assist with the maintenance of adaptive technology.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Availability to work Monday to Friday, 30 hours per week, between 08:30 am and 4:30 pm.
  • Experience in an educational setting, particularly with individuals with SEND.
  • Knowledge of a range of disabilities and the ability to support across these.
  • Understanding of professional boundaries and personal limitations.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proficient ICT skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude and the ability to adapt to a busy, evolving environment.
