Position: Attendance Officer
Rate of Pay: 15.08 per hour
Recruiter: Opus People Solutions, on behalf of our client
Location: Hybrid, Civic Centre within Walsall Town Centre, Schools and residencies around the Walsall Borough and working from home.
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, 30-minute unpaid break.
Duration: Until July 2025 - potential extension upon reviewal. Term Time only after extension.

A full UK Driving Licence and access to your own vehicle is required for this role as the role includes commuting during working hours between office, schools and pupils home addresses.


About the Role
We are seeking an experience, skilled and versatile Attendance Officer in the School Attendance Support Service to join the Prevention and Reintegration Team. The role is crucial to ensuring vulnerable children within the Walsall Borough are receiving the support and encouragement they need to improve their school attendance.
The role of the Attendance Officer involves working closely with schools and families, alongside other partners, to support children and young people to ensure they have access to their full educational entitlement and achieve positive outcomes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • To work within the School Attendance Support Service in the Prevention and Reintegration team, for vulnerable children, to challenge and support schools across Walsall to ensure they are fulfilling their educational responsibilities by following statutory guidelines.
  • Champion the needs and aspirations of vulnerable children in ensuring they receive a high-quality education enabling them to fulfil their potential and achieve economic wellbeing, by working directly with the child, family and schools in a range of settings.
  • Have a good understanding of the statutory guidelines outlined by the Government in advice to parents and schools around Elective Home Education, Permanent Exclusion, CME, and Attendance.
  • Work with schools to ensure that alternative educational provision fulfils statutory entitlements and is relevant to the needs, interests and aspirations of pupils disengaging from school.
  • Manage and prioritise an allocated caseload, ensuring records are kept in line with service expectations and agreed operational policy, practice, and procedures.
  • Undertake home visits to families, parents, carers independently and use personal judgement on regularity.
  • To attend multi agency meetings as and when required e.g., Child in need meetings, Assessment Meetings, and Early Help Meetings.


Essential Requirements
Experience:

  • Previous experience working within a SEND, educational or social work.
  • Previous experience working with a School and/or educational setting.
  • Previous experience working with SEND and vulnerable children.
  • Ability to write reports, track and maintaining and update attendance records.
  • Strong administrative experience.
  • Commitment to work on a mixed hybrid basis.
  • Ability to work within a team.

Driving:

    • Full, clean UK driving licence.
    • Access to own vehicle for commuting and business use.
    • Business Insurance is essential.
