Team Leader - Children's Residential Care - Starting from £32,120

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Team Leader to join our team in a 6-bedded childrens residential service located in a friendly community setting. This role offers a starting salary of £29,120 (based on competency) with the potential to increase through overtime paid at a premium rate, plus an additional Sleep-In payment of £62.55 per shift (approx. once per week).

The Role of a Team Leader:

As a Team Leader, you will help create a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for children and young people with moderate to severe learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and potential behavioural or complex care needs, including those with Autism, ADHD, and sensory impairments. Many children may also face mental health challenges or developmental delays due to past neglect or trauma.

In this hands-on, shift-based role, you will oversee staff, lead shifts, and provide direct support to young people, working 40 hours per week with weekends and approximately one sleep-in shift per week.

What Were Looking For as a Team Leader:

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate individual with experience in supervising teams, strong interpersonal skills, and proficiency in IT. Ideal candidates will have worked in a similar role, such as a Shift Leader, Senior Support Worker, or Youth Worker, within a childrens residential care setting.

Requirements:

  • QCF Level 3 in Childrens Residential Care or NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People's Workforce, with at least 2 years residential experience.
  • Ideally working towards NVQ Level 5 Diploma.
  • Good knowledge of childrens homes regulations and experience working with children who have complex learning disabilities.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills across all levels
  • Ability to follow and implement Care Plans effectively
  • Experience in shift leading, task delegation, support provision, and staff supervision
  • Calm under pressure, patient, approachable, and reliable
  • A valid driving licence is ideal, as transporting children for activities may be required
