Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm / 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
A reputable general haulage company in Preston is seeking a skilled HGV Mechanic to join their team. This role involves hands-on maintenance of the fleet of vehicles. The ideal candidate will have the technical expertise necessary to maintain a small fleet of HGVs and ensure their reliability and safety.
Essential Skills:
- Level 3 qualification for vehicle sign-off is required.
- Proven experience in HGV maintenance.
- Ability to work independently without managerial oversight.
- Class 1 driving license is desirable, but not mandatory.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle systems is essential, with HGV experience being a top priority.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain a fleet of HGVs.
- Conduct regular services, MOT preparation, and six-weekly vehicle inspections.
- Perform ad-hoc repairs and routine maintenance.
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance comply with health and safety standards.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and perform inspections on rigid HGVs.
- Maintain accurate records of all services and repairs.
- Sign off work and documentation (Level 3 qualification required).
- Implement preventative maintenance routines.
- Safely use all tools and equipment.
- Accurately interpret outputs from vehicle diagnostic equipment in line with manufacturer guidelines.
- Follow standard operating procedures and ensure documentation is fully completed.
- Diagnose and rectify any faults that arise.
- Identify and order parts as necessary.
