The Company:

My client is a dynamic and growing planning consultancy based in Wantage, Oxfordshire. The team consists of 8 professionals, including 6 experienced planners and 2 partners, specialising in delivering high-quality planning services across residential, industrial, commercial, and educational projects.

Role Overview:

We are seeking an ambitious and experienced Principal Town Planner to join a growing team. This key role offers the chance to work on a diverse portfolio of projects, mentor junior team members, and make a significant impact on our continued success. As a Principal Town Planner, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of the company while driving the delivery of exceptional planning services. The role has clear progression to Partner level.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Development:

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level planners, fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Manage and oversee planning projects across residential, industrial, commercial, and education sectors.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and growth of the company by identifying new opportunities and assisting in business development efforts.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Act as a senior point of contact for key clients and stakeholders, ensuring high levels of service and satisfaction.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local authorities, developers, and other key partners.
  • Represent the company at public inquiries, hearings, and client meetings.

Project Management:

  • Take the lead on preparing, submitting, and negotiating complex planning applications and appeals.
  • Ensure timely and budget-conscious delivery of high-quality planning projects.
  • Oversee the production of robust planning reports, statements, and other essential documents.

Business Development:

  • Play a proactive role in securing new business opportunities and expanding the client base.
  • Assist in developing marketing strategies to raise the company's profile and presence in the industry.
  • Support strategic planning, including setting goals and direction for the business.

Candidate Profile:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute) accredited degree in Town Planning or a related field.
  • Significant experience within a planning consultancy or local authority, including leading complex projects.
  • Strong understanding of the UK planning system and experience across various sectors, such as residential, industrial, commercial, and education.
  • Proven leadership experience, with a track record of managing and developing teams.
