The Company:

My client is a dynamic and growing planning consultancy based in Wantage, Oxfordshire. With a team of 8 professionals, including 6 experienced planners and 2 partners, who specialise in delivering high-quality planning services across residential, industrial, commercial, and educational projects.

Role Overview:

We are seeking an ambitious and experienced Planning Director to join our team. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to lead and shape the future, with the potential to take on the management and strategic direction of the company. As Planning Director, you will oversee a diverse portfolio of projects, provide leadership and guidance to our talented planning team, and drive the business forward.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Management:
    • Provide leadership and strategic direction to the planning team and the wider company.
    • Oversee the day-to-day management of planning projects across residential, industrial, commercial, and educational sectors.
    • Mentor and develop junior planners, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
    • Lead the company's business development efforts, identifying new opportunities and expanding our client base.
  • Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Act as the primary point of contact for key clients and stakeholders, ensuring exceptional service delivery.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with local authorities, developers, and other key stakeholders.
    • Represent the company at public inquiries, hearings, and meetings with clients and stakeholders.
  • Project Management:
    • Lead the preparation, submission, and negotiation of planning applications and appeals.
    • Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standard.
    • Oversee the production of high-quality planning reports, statements, and supporting documents.
  • Business Development:
    • Identify and secure new business opportunities, contributing to the growth and expansion of the company.
    • Develop and implement marketing strategies to enhance the company's profile and reputation.
    • Play a key role in strategic planning, helping to set the direction and goals for the business.
  • Company Leadership (Optional):
    • For candidates interested in taking on broader responsibilities, there is the opportunity to assume a Managing Director role, overseeing the entire business operation and guiding Bluestone Planning through its next phase of growth.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualifications and Experience:
    • RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute) accredited degree in Town Planning or related field.
    • Extensive experience in a planning consultancy or local authority environment, with a track record of leading complex projects.
    • Strong knowledge of the UK planning system, including experience across residential, industrial, commercial, and education sectors.
    • Proven experience in managing and mentoring teams.
  • Skills and Attributes:
    • Excellent leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
    • Strong business acumen and commercial awareness, with a proactive approach to business development.
    • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
