Our client is looking to strengthen their existing team by appointing an experienced Lab Technician based on site in Wantage. The main activities for this role are testing, gathering, recording, and interpreting data in support of materials qualifications and technical support. The role requires the use of laboratory equipment at a setter level, preparation of chemical solutions, and handling of packaging materials.

Responsibilities

Characterisation and Evaluation of Packaging Materials

  • Develop knowledge of prime materials, coatings, print and other material requirements to support the cross functional activities within the labs.
  • Conduct laboratory and pilot line tests of packaging materials, metal containers and ends.
  • Evaluate container performance, physical and chemical testing.
  • Work closely with project managers, material scientists and other technicians in the group to understand the correct testing to assess the material properties.
  • Gather, interpret, and record data using computers and online systems.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot lab equipment and pilot line machinery.
  • Responsible for the delivery of technical data in support of projects and service work.

Laboratory Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to maintain and support continuous improvement and high standards for safety and quality by ensuring work instructions, risk assessments, 5S and documentation audits, training records and equipment maintenance are current and in compliance with company requirements.
  • Participate on-going improvement of the laboratories and equipment, capability, knowledge management and transfer of best practices.
  • Flag lab priority issues or conflict of interest up the management chain.
  • Participate on technical tours with visitors.

Experience/Qualifications

  • Laboratory experience.
  • Practical person with ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Competent operating equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to record, summarise and present data.
  • Use of computer (MS Excel, Word, Outlook).
