Production Supervisor - Agricultural Animal Feed

  • Location: Bishop's Stortford - Own transport required due to rural location

Established animal equine feed manufacturer is looking to recruit a motivated and hands on Production Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of the Animal Feed Mill. This role involves managing the Mixing and Press teams, ensuring safety standards, maintaining high-quality production, and optimising processes. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with a strong focus on quality, efficiency, and team development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the feed mill, ensuring smooth and efficient production.
  • Manage and lead the Mixing and Press teams, fostering a safe and productive work environment.
  • Promote and implement safe working practices throughout the mill.
  • Train team members on specific machinery and processes, ensuring proper use and maintenance.
  • Provide daily support and guidance to team members, addressing any issues or concerns.
  • Uphold quality standards by monitoring bag weights, metal detection, seals, and mixing accuracy.
  • Work on reducing waste and improving overall output.
  • Ensure accurate completion of production records and daily/weekly checks.
  • Ensure that all required samples are taken and recorded.
  • Collaborate with the Mill Manager on planning the mixing of fibres to produce the highest quality products.
  • Oversee the proper and safe storage of raw materials, including fibres, straw, oils, additives, plastics, pellets, wrap, and pallets.
  • Maintain a clean and organised mill and yard, instilling a sense of pride within the team.
  • Take ownership of and lead bi-monthly "Focus Projects" aimed at improving mill operations.
  • Support preventative maintenance tasks and assist with fixing breakdowns.
  • Work closely with the Mill Manager and Engineering Team to suggest and implement improvements in the mill, including new equipment and projects, as well as optimising existing equipment and processes.

Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Experience in a production or manufacturing environment, preferably within an animal feed mill or similar industry.
  • Knowledge of machinery operation and maintenance.
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Salary:

  • Starting salary: £30,000 for a 39-hour week.
  • Potential for additional earnings through overtime, with possible OTE up to the £45,000-£50,000 pa level.
