Assistant Management Accountant

Role Purpose

To provide the best financial information and support for the group.

Key Accountabilities Assistant Management Accountant• Experience in pulling together a set of management accounts, with the ability to learn quickly.• Strong analytical thinking skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.• Commitment to preparing high-quality financial information and willingness to challenge the status quo.• Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, and pivot tables.• Good understanding of finance systems, enabling data extraction and manipulation for financial reporting and ad hoc queries.• Strong communication skills to engage effectively with different stakeholders.• Opportunity for career growth and involvement across the business.• Key responsibilities include:o Assisting with the production of monthly management and annual statutory accounts.o Assisting with the preparation of budgets and forecasts.o Supporting financial report preparation for budget holders and external stakeholders.o Maintaining technical accounting knowledge to ensure compliance with relevant standards.o Meeting all reporting deadlines without exception.o Performing balance sheet reconciliations in accordance with best practices.o Processing journals, including accruals and prepayments.o Interrogating financial systems to identify and correct errors.o Conducting variance analysis.o Preparing ad-hoc reports and analyses.o Identifying opportunities for process improvements.o Handling external returns and reporting.

Experience and Qualifications Assistant Management Accountant• Educated to GCSE and A-Level standard (or equivalent), including GCSE passes in English and Maths.• Relevant degree or AAT Level 3 or above is an advantage in the absence of professional qualification progression or relevant experience.• Studying or willingness to study towards a recognised professional accounting qualification (ACA/CIMA/ACCA) is desirable.• Suitable for entry-level accountants with minimal experience and a strong academic record, as well as part-qualified accountants or those with up to five years in a similar role.• Relevant experience includes working in financial reporting, management accounting, budgeting, financial systems, and teamwork in a finance setting.• Strong IT skills with expert-level Excel proficiency.• Knowledge of specialist financial systems is desirable.• Ability to analyse, interpret, and present information clearly.• Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines.
