About the School:
The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.
About the Role:
As an Outdoor Education Support Worker, you’ll support students in vocational subjects like horticulture, animal care, agriculture, and equine studies. You’ll assist both in the classroom and outdoors, ensuring a safe, inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with outdoor-based vocational lessons in areas such as horticulture, agriculture, animal care, and equine studies.
- Support students in practical tasks and help them develop essential life and work skills.
- Provide individualised support for students with SEN, ensuring their needs are met.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel safe and supported.
- Encourage independence and self-confidence in students, promoting their personal growth.
- Assist with the delivery of enterprise and employability skills.
- Work alongside teaching staff to plan and adapt learning activities to suit the needs of each student.
Requirements:
- Experience working with young people or adults with Special Educational Needs, ideally in an outdoor or vocational setting.
- A passion for working outdoors and a keen interest in vocational education, particularly in areas like horticulture, agriculture, or animal care.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students.
- A proactive attitude and a willingness to take on new challenges.
- A flexible, adaptable approach to working in an ever-changing outdoor environment.
