Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

We are seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist SEMH school in Coulsdon. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is enthusiastic, resilient, and committed to supporting students with complex needs, helping them thrive in an inclusive and nurturing environment.

About the Role:

As an HLTA, you will play a key role in supporting students aged 11-18 with a range of additional needs, including:? Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties? Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)? Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)? Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)? Anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges? Challenging behaviours and attachment difficulties

You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to provide academic and emotional support, deliver small-group interventions, and help students regulate their emotions in a safe and structured setting.

Key Responsibilities:

?? Support students in and out of the classroom, ensuring they are engaged and progressing in their learning.?? Plan and deliver small-group and 1:1 interventions, focusing on literacy, numeracy, and emotional regulation.?? Use de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies to support students with challenging behaviours.?? Collaborate with teachers to adapt lesson materials and create a supportive learning environment.?? Assist with daily routines, social skills development, and building students' confidence and independence.?? Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including therapists and SEN specialists, to provide holistic support.

What We're Looking For:

? Previous experience working with SEMH, ASC, ADHD, or other additional needs (in a school, PRU, or alternative provision setting).? HLTA qualification or extensive experience as a Teaching Assistant with leadership responsibilities.? Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.? A compassionate and resilient approach to working with students who may display challenging behaviours.? A commitment to helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.? Team player mentality - able to work effectively with staff, parents, and external agencies.
