Our client established over 20 years ago is a fast-growing business that specialises in the design and build of new utility networks that power our communities. We ensure that vital services (Electric, Water, Gas) are connected and operational for the start of every new development. As part of our team, you will contribute to the planning, coordination, and execution of utility-related tasks that lay the foundation for successful project delivery.

Job Overview:

They're seeking a highly organised, proactive and dedicated estimator to join their dynamic team. In this role, you will be a fundamental part of the tender process for their upcoming multi utility projects, particularly within the domestic development marketplace.

You will work closely with our business development team and preconstruction coordination to produce accurate, reasonable and competitive multi utility quotations for new and existing opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

Assessment of information (Ongoing) Review essential information gathered by preconstruction coordination. Ensure that the project is in best possible condition for an effective tender.

Estimating: (Start 12 months prior to construction, ongoing until design phase commencement) Work with preconstruction coordinator, business development and design team to compile accurate utility quotations and tender documents for all assigned projects within the allocated timeframe.

Estimating: (Situational during design and/or construction phase): Swift response to early warning notifications (EWNs) which may arise on a project following the estimating phase. Compile accurate variation orders (VOs) and issue to all associated parties.

Project Planning: (Start 12 months prior to construction, ongoing until design phase commencement) Work with preconstruction and finance team to ensure that upon any quotation acceptance, the relevant steps are carried out to enable the project to fully enter the design phase. This includes deposit invoicing, presentation of budget constraints, collection of essential information from the client and handover presentation to the design team.

Stakeholder Communication: (Start 12 months prior to construction, ongoing until design phase commencement) Serve as a key point of contact between clients and business development, and between preconstruction coordination and all associated utility networks during the estimating phase.

Value engineering (Start 12 months prior to construction, ongoing until design phase commencement): Effectively communicate with independent networks to maximise asset value beyond initial offers and finalise between quotation acceptance and handover to design team.

Team Collaboration: (Ongoing) Work closely with designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure project design aligns with construction feasibility.

Reporting: (Weekly meetings): Regularly update estimating manager and business development team on the progress of preconstruction activities.

Qualifications:

Experience: 2+ years of experience in utility estimating or a similar role within the construction, utilities, or infrastructure industries.

Knowledge of Utilities: Understanding of utility processes, including electricity, water, gas adopting networks.

Technical Skills: Familiarity with CRM software and excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with multiple stakeholders, including district utility providers, independent networks, developers and internal teams.

Organisational Skills: Strong organisational and time management skills, with a proven ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Problem-Solving: Resourceful problem solver, able to navigate and help resolve utility challenges in a timely manner or push to the relevant staff / department for resolution.
