Job Title: Design Manager
Remuneration: £60,000 - £70,000 per annum plus full package
Type: Permanent/Monday to Friday/40hrs (plus flexible work)

A Tier 1 main contractor is seeking a degree-qualified professional with strong technical construction knowledge to lead and manage innovative design solutions from concept to completion. You will collaborate with design partners, subcontractors, and clients to ensure cost-effective, compliant designs that meet project specifications and deadlines. You will help manage and direct the design of complex and large value projects from tender stage through to completion of construction stage design information.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of value engineering principles to deliver maximum value for all stakeholders applying their expertise, interface coordination, risk management, and cost control to ensure a seamless and efficient construction phase.

Key Responsibilities:
• Support innovative, cost-effective design solutions in line with client briefs and project requirements.
• Build and maintain relationships with design partners, subcontractors, and clients, ensuring expectations are managed and deliverables met.
• Chair design team meetings, providing direction and resolving queries with stakeholders.
• Apply value engineering principles to optimize designs and align with procurement and construction activities.
• Manage design risks and ensure compliance with Employer's Requirements and Contractors' Proposals.
• Monitor design progress, identify potential issues, and drive performance through KPIs.

Requirements:
• Degree qualified in a relevant construction or architectural field
• 3 years' experience working in a similar field ideally with a main contractor
• Professional accreditation (C.Eng., MCIOB) bonus
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Analytical, adaptable, and able to manage multiple tasks.
• Experience with project planning and problem-solving.
• Client-focused, with leadership and decision-making capabilities.
• Proficient in MS Office and collaborative platforms, with experience in design software (e.g., P6, MS Project or similar).
• Knowledge and experience of various design standards (e.g. WIMES, Client Standards).
