Project Controls Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Project Controls Engineer to join our NTS Project and Programme Management team. In this role, you’ll support multiple nuclear industry projects, from feasibility through to delivery, across sectors including Decommissioning, Defence, and Nuclear New Build. Your primary responsibilities will be managing project controls across cost, scheduling, risk, and change control.

This role is ideal for a proactive professional with a strong background in project controls, planning, P6, cost, reporting, Nuclear / NDA experience, 10+ years’ experience

Location ideally Northwest, or can attend 2 / 3 days a week at Hinton House but depending on their experience this could be reduced once they are settled into the role / team.

The client are part of the UK’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, they are public body responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient clean-up of the UK’s nuclear legacy, their work involves a range of activities for safely transporting materials to and from nuclear sites and providing nuclear transport solutions for a range of customers based in the UK and Overseas.

They also provide transport services outside of the nuclear sector, operating a number of intermodal rail services in consumer goods and general freight markets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead project controls processes, including cost estimating, schedule management, and risk analysis, to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules (using Primavera P6) and provide earned value and variance analysis for accurate reporting.
  • Manage and communicate project cost controls, including budget forecasting, cost tracking, and variance explanations.
  • Implement risk management practices, maintaining a comprehensive risk register, performing risk analysis, and integrating mitigation strategies.
  • Facilitate effective change control processes, evaluating project impacts and implementing changes with the project team.
  • Provide clear and actionable reporting to stakeholders and lead project progress discussions.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • 10+ years of experience in project controls within regulated, technical industries.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6, cost management tools, and earned value management.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with experience in budget and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management abilities
