Our client, a UK-based International Infrastructure Group, is looking for a Design Manager to lead design delivery for a major infrastructure initiative in Hull. This role involves close coordination with internal teams (commercial, engineering, production) and external stakeholders (subcontractors, regulatory bodies) to ensure that design plans meet top standards in safety, quality, efficiency, and sustainability. The Design Manager will oversee the project from planning through construction with a focus on customer satisfaction and compliance. Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee the design process from initial planning through construction, ensuring designs meet customer needs within budget and safety standards.
  • Lead the Design Team, including third-party or subcontractor teams, ensuring adherence to specifications, quality, and timelines.
  • Review and approve subcontractor design packages to align with project objectives.
  • Liaise with planning authorities, building control, and utilities to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Manage change requests and lead value engineering for cost-effective and efficient designs.
  • Track and manage the design schedule to ensure timely deliverables and approvals at each project stage.
  • Encourage the use of BIM protocols and Lean construction techniques for data-sharing, collaboration, and resource optimisation.

Skills and experience required:

  • Experience in managing on-site design services, ideally on large infrastructure projects.
  • Strong leadership skills in a matrixed organisation, with a strong focus on customers.
  • Expertise in BIM and familiarity with current procurement methods.
  • Membership in relevant professional bodies (e.g., RIBA, BIBSE, IET) and a valid CSCS card.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with strong report-writing and numeracy skills; knowledge of industry codes and regulatory standards.
