Senior Design Manager

A busy Housing Contractor have a requirement for an experienced Senior Design Manager to join their Design & Technical team based in Warrington.

About the role - Senior Design Manger

Reporting to the Technical Director, you will take responsibility for the compliance of the Design from inception through to operation of the building. You will ensure compliance of the design in accordance with Planning Permission, Third Party Agreements, latent defects insurers requirements, statutory requirements and contractual obligations arising from the Land Sale and Design & Build Agreements.

Duties & responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with the D&B Contract Employers Requirements & Contractors Proposals.
  • Lead and guide the project external and internal design teams and ensure good communication and co-ordination.
  • Appointment competent designers and consultants.
  • Provide primary design management to facilitate the timely completion of design information to meet the design programme targets and project budgets.
  • Management and checking of the internal/external drawings and manage weekly registers.
  • Ensure all records of design changes are kept to co-ordinate "as built" drawings upon completion of the project.
  • Ensure the design is co-ordinated through our drawing management portal.
  • Produce Design Programme / Information Required Schedules.
  • Produce and provide updates of the design delivery schedule in line with the contract deliverables.
  • Assist the Project Manager with a tracking schedule all design and cost issues.
  • Closely track design deliverables to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Writing / reviewing project and elemental specifications.
  • Liaison with building control, planning authority, fire authority and other regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure design risk assessments are created and appropriately maintained for each project.
  • Ensure that design elements take due consideration of the CDM regulations and that all designs can be delivered in a safe and controlled manner on site.
  • Assisting in the assessment of tenders (where required).
  • Set out scope-of-work, deliverables, and fee schedules with external consultants.
  • Site visits and inspections. Issuing of Site Inspection Reports to note key points from site visits.
  • Organising and chairing Design Team Meetings as required.
Requirements for the Senior Design Manager
  • Excellent knowledge of construction standards, regulations and legislation including Health & Safety.
  • Excellent, up-to-date, practical knowledge and experience of construction processes.
  • Ability to present information in a clear and concise way to the team and to senior management, enabling effective decision making.
  • Experience of managing the operational performance of the design supply chain including setting and achieving challenging targets.
  • Able to prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
  • Experience of document control systems.
  • Excellent computer skills, CAD and Microsoft packages.
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
