The role
As the Senior Mechanical Estimator, you will manage all aspects of the tendering process for the Major Projects division, securing profitable contracts and meeting company targets.
Warrington, Cheshire. Hybrid working is available, but 3 days per week in the Warrington office is expected.
Dimensions Project size varies, with some exceeding £20m.
Organisation Reports to the Lead Mechanical Estimating Engineer.
Remuneration and benefits
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 per annum
Car Allowance: £5,000 per annum
Hours Standard: 40 hours per week.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
- Manage contract enquiries allocated by the Estimating Manager.
- Develop and submit tenders in line with client requirements and company procedures.
- Prepare detailed scope of work, solicit supplier/subcontractor bids, and evaluate responses.
- Conduct quantity take-offs from drawings and establish lump sum tender quantities.
- Liaise with internal departments to gather necessary information for tenders.
- Attend site visits and tender review meetings with clients (UK and overseas) to assess key factors and working conditions.
- Establish manhour estimates, plant requirements, and base costs for tenders.
- Present tenders to Directors and Senior Management for review and final submission.
- Address post-tender queries and assist with contract documentation.
- Support and guide Junior Estimating Personnel as needed.
- Contribute to the overall development of the Estimating Department.

- Ability to assess client requirements and design specifications for accurate estimating.
- Knowledge of contractual arrangements and estimating practices is required.
- Must be highly organised, able to work under pressure, and manage deadlines effectively.
You will have the following qualifications and experience
- Relevant qualifications (HNC, ONC, City & Guilds, etc.).
- Extensive experience in estimating within the chemical, pharmaceutical, nuclear, utilities, or food & drink industries.
- Skills and Knowledge
- Strong numeracy and written communication skills.
- Proficient in computer use.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Experience in leadership, coaching, and staff development.
- Strong understanding of current estimating and commercial practices, engineering, and project management.
