An exciting opportunity has arisen with Sonomatic for an experienced electronics test engineer. The role is varied with a strong emphasis on fault diagnosis, problem solving and repair work. In addition to fault finding, the role includes various tasks from small PCB/cable assembly projects to larger complex system builds.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced electronics test engineer with 3+ years of industry experience and a proven track record in diagnosing faults in complex electronic systems. Thus, the ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electronics and can read and interpret PCB and system level schematics.
Some out-of-hours support for onsite technicians may be required, though this is not a regular occurrence and will be paid as overtime.
Sonomatic are a leading NDT company specialising in the design and development of advanced automated ultrasonic inspection solutions, supporting our worldwide NDT field service division. Projects typically range from bespoke ROV/Diver deployed automated inspections, to topside remotely operated inspections. Our projects are always pushing the boundaries of inspection and robotics, whether its operating at 3000m in the sea off the shores of Brazil or dealing with the high temperatures at a refinery in the north of the UK. Key responsibilities may include:
- Fault diagnosis and repair at both PCB and system levels
- Fault diagnosis and support for equipment preparation
- PCB assembly
- Cable assembly
- Assembly of complex systems containing multiple electronics assemblies
- Functional testing of PCBAs and complex systems
Essential Requirements:
- Component and system level fault finding
- The candidate can read and follow schematics to diagnose faults and build PCBAs and complex systems
- Experience of DC motors, drives and encoders.
- Wired communications.
o RS485.
o Ethernet knowledge of wiring standards and general networking are required.
- Hand soldering capabilities
o THT and SMT
o Rework
- Wiring
o Wire to wire, wire to board, wire to connector
- Use of diagnostic tools
o DMM, Scope, Signal Generator
- Report writing
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Ability to self-manage time, and work to tight deadlines.
- Ability to work methodically and meticulously with a right first time attitude
Desirable Requirements:
- Any experience using ECAD packages
- Experience of building equipment for subsea deployment.
