Senior Legal Officer – 12 Month Contract – PAYE - £300– per day - Umbrella £450 per day (Inside IR35) – Offering Hybrid Working 3 days per week on site based in Warrington – Flexible Hours

Reed Talent Professionals are partnering with a large public sector organisation based in Warrington (with parking) they are currently recruiting for a Senior Legal Officer to assume responsibility for the supervision of the Claims and Litigation team ensuring that the company discharges its legal liability to claimants in an equitable and cost-effective manner from inception through to trial if applicable.

The ideal candidate will have Litigation experience within an in-house insurance company and previous supervisory experience.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Supervise a team of 4 Claims and Litigation Officers handling over 2,000 claims annually.
  • Provide expert advice across the company on all claims and litigation-related matters.
  • Support and deputise for the Head of Claims and Debt Recovery, ensuring a quality and effective legal service.
  • Conduct and complete all stages of legal proceedings including preparation of pleadings, discovery of documents, preparing witness statements, instructing expert witnesses, briefing counsel, and preparing for trial.
  • Compile estimates for Project Managers assessing financial and public relations implications of various engineering solutions.
  • Provide statistical reports and undertake day-to-day team management duties as delegated.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • CILEX qualification as a “Fellow” or equivalent qualification, or significant experience in lieu of qualification.
  • Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute or a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with experience handling own claims and litigation cases from inception to trial.
  • Minimum three years post-qualification experience in claims and debt protocols, proficient in handling general Civil Litigation.
  • Good knowledge of water and sewerage law and the legal framework within the business.
  • Proficiency in computer applications with strong oral and written communication skills, negotiating skills, and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to motivate a team and deputise for the Claims and Debt Manager when required.
