Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for a Principal Mechanical Engineer with a Building Services bias and a background in the nuclear sector to be engaged on a permanent basis; the role offers flexible hybrid working with occasional travel to the clients Warrington office.
What you can expect to do:
- You will be responsible for delivery of Mechanical Building Services design & engineering, including the production of design documentation, design substantiation, as well as checking and approval of the work of other engineers & designers.
- Develop and review design strategies for mechanical heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, and other building services systems, ensuring they meet project requirements and industry standards.
- Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, regulations, and sustainability standards, such as LEED, BREEAM, or local energy efficiency requirements.
- Implement best practices in sustainable and energy-efficient design, utilizing new technologies, renewable energy sources, and smart building systems.
- Perform technical audits and peer reviews of engineering designs to ensure quality, safety, and performance standards.
- Collaborate with our in-house multidisciplinary team and external third-party consultants to deliver integrated design consultancy services on projects.
- You will be responsible for mentoring and training more junior members of the MEP team.
The successful Engineer will have the following experience and qualifications:
- Qualified to a minimum of HND level and preferably have a good relevant engineering degree.
- Chartered Engineer.
- Membership of CIBSE, or a relevant and equivalent professional body
- Extensive experience in mechanical building services design from working in a range of market sectors, with a strong understanding of design principles and the ability to apply them.
- Relevant experience in specification writing, calculations, and developing designs from first principles.
- Understanding and knowledge using IES, and AUTOCAD.
- Able to demonstrate management experience in leading a team or function, particularly within complex or novel assignments.
- Demonstrable record of successful delivery, including positions influencing other professional engineers in the definition, implementation, and delivery of engineering work packages.
- Experience in seeing conceptual designs through to completion and dealing directly with clients.
- Ability to provide mentorship to the junior MEP team and undertake assistance with the nuclear teams business development.
- Able to establish new/or enhance existing processes/procedures.
- Able to prepare and deliver technical presentations.
Ideal Additional Qualifications / Skills:
- Knowledge of electrical building services design.
- Have a working knowledge of appropriate nuclear standards and specifications as well as general engineering standards.
- Experience in the nuclear sector, including new build and decommissioning projects.
- Using Revit to be able to amend and investigate Revit models to ensure that the output is correct and appropriate. We can train someone in this, if required.
- You will also be self-motivated with an ability to work autonomously where required.
