Your new companyHays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a Warrington-based single-form entry primary school that is Ofsted-rated "Good" as they are looking to appoint a motivated and qualified Teaching Assistant to support across the KS1 (key stage 1) and KS2 (key stage 2) resource provisions. This is a long-term full-time temporary contract with hours consisting of 8:30am - 3:30pm that may lead to a permanent contract for the right candidate.Your new roleIn your new role as a teaching assistant, you will be supporting pupils with ASD on a 1:1 and small group basis across the schools two resource provisions. As you will be supporting ASD, it is paramount that you gradually integrate into the pupils' routine and take a pupil-centred approach to learning as to build a strong constructive relationship and not trigger. A number of pupils within the resource provision are non-verbal, so you will offer speech and language interventions on a 1:1 basis and use Makaton, PECs and various visual aids to communicate. Due to the needs of the pupils, they will at times present complex challenging behaviours. This is not a personal attack but how a pupil may communicate something; they may be upset, overstimulated or triggered. You will work alongside class teachers to implement a myriad of positive behaviour strategies best suited to each pupil's individual needs and emotional state, which will typically consist of sensory play and therapy, pressure therapy, distraction and regulation to monitor their behaviours and trigger points.What you'll need to succeedTo be considered in your application, you must have extensive referenceable experience supporting pupils with SEN, full "Right to Work" in the UK and:

  • An NVQ Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification is advantageous
  • Experience supporting ASD
  • Experience delivering interventions including behaviour, SALT, and core subjects
