We have an exciting opportunity to recruit an experienced Income Officer on an ongoing, temporary basis to support our client who are a well-established housing association in their Income Maximisation team. This is predominantly a home-working role, however will be required to attend the office once every couple of weeks for team meetings and to collect/return IT equipment.

Your new role

  • Responsible for monitoring and managing your own caseload of customer accounts that require intervention to recover or prevent rent arrears or service charge arrears
  • Coordinating and monitoring legal proceedings in relation to current & former tenant arrears, service charges & leasehold, and re-chargable amounts including the preparation of court paperwork
  • Providing advice, guidance and support in relation to benefit claims including Universal credit, making referrals to external agencies where appropriate
  • Handling inbound correspondence from customers via telephone, email and web chat, as well as making outbound calls to customers
  • Implementing alternative payment arrangements where appropriate to minimise rent loss
  • Attending County Court to progress possession claims

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience of working in an Income Management position within a social housing environment
  • Working knowledge of the arrears recovery process across a range of tenures, as well as a good understanding of the benefits system including Housing Benefit & Universal Credit
  • Experience of dealing with difficult customers, some of whom may be vulnerable or high-risk
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, listening, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to work well on own initiative and under pressure
