My client is a leading Nationwide Mechanical & Electrical Contractor with Regional Offices across the Country and over 70 years in business. They deliver complex, large-scale projects for the commercial, residential, and industrial sectors. Their expertise covers the full spectrum of mechanical, electrical, and building services, offering high-quality solutions with a strong emphasis on innovation and sustainability.

 

My client seeking an experienced and proactive Planner to join their team. As a key member of the team, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing, planning, and coordinating the construction schedules for M&E projects across the Northwest Region, working closely with project managers, site teams, and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of projects, mitigate risks, and maintain smooth workflow throughout the construction process.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Scheduling & Planning:
    Develop and maintain detailed construction schedules for mechanical and electrical projects, ensuring all milestones, resources, and timelines are accounted for.
    • Prepare initial construction programme from pre-construction phase through to completion, using industry-standard software such as Primavera P6 or MS Project.
    • Update and review the programme regularly, incorporating project changes and progress.
    • Identify critical path activities and potential delays, ensuring proactive measures are in place.
  • Coordination & Communication:
    Work closely with the Project Manager, engineers, and site teams to ensure the schedule is achievable and realistic and monitor the day-to-day progress of construction works.
    • Attend site meetings, providing updates on project status and assisting in resolving scheduling issues.
    • Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and resources.
  • Risk Management & Reporting:
    • Identify and evaluate risks associated with the construction schedule, including resource constraints, procurement delays, and unforeseen events.
    • Provide accurate and timely reports on schedule progress, highlighting deviations and advising on corrective actions.
    • Develop mitigation plans for any potential project delays and ensure project delivery targets are met.
  • Documentation & Compliance:
    • Ensure that all scheduling and planning documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with company and industry standards.
    • Manage project data in accordance with internal procedures, ensuring alignment with contractual requirements.
    • Ensure the program reflects any contractual changes, including time extensions and agreed variations.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Contribute to the improvement of planning processes, systems, and methodologies to increase efficiency and accuracy.
    • Provide feedback and insights on project performance and areas for improvement in future projects.

 

Qualifications/Experience

  • Essential:
    • Proven experience in construction planning, ideally within the mechanical and electrical (M&E) sector or a related construction field.
    • Proficient in construction planning software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
    • Solid understanding of construction processes, resource management, and project scheduling techniques.
    • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Desirable:
    • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related discipline.
    • Experience working on large-scale commercial, residential, or industrial projects.
    • Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling) and its integration with planning.
