Statutory Reporting

  • Jointly own (with the Management Accounts Team and External Auditors) and update the year end timetable.
  • Manage and produce the Group statutory accounts in accordance with the year-end timetable and in accordance with IFRS accounting standards.
  • Maintain and update existing year end processes and controls to ensure financial information is accurately stated and can be reconciled back to source balances. Seek to improve and update these processes where possible.
  • Prepare comprehensive planning documents and communicate these effectively to ensure all finance and non-finance stakeholders are appropriately engaged in year end deliverables. Ensure regular updates such that any late deliverables and issues are escalated appropriately.
  • Key contact for the external auditors for group reporting and audit queries.
  • Ensure all processes & controls are effectively documented to enable a smooth and well-controlled audit and a smooth transition on conclusion of the work.
  • Research new and changing accounting standards, assess potential impacts on the Society and recommend possible approaches

Fixed Assets

  • Jointly manage fixed asset accounting and the capital expenditure process. Ensure effective process and control documentation is maintained and that the business adheres to the documented rules.
  • Ensure the company fixed asset register is accurately maintained and reconciled each period.
  • Ensure additions, disposals and any other changes to the fixed asset register are transacted effectively using appropriate controls, fully authorised procedures and business reviews.

Other Reporting and compliance

  • Monitor covenant compliance within the business and report to Managers and Banking partners.
  • Manage the production and filing related to fixed assets that may occur during the timeframe of this role

Ad hoc Projects

  • Undertake additional projects as required to improve financial processes and controls across the rest of the Finance team.
  • Technical and reporting expert recommending any necessary changes in the application of accounting policies and our reporting approach

About You
  • Qualified (preferred ACA or ACCA) finance professional with extensive (min 5+ years) experience in senior finance role
  • Experience of leading year end and audit processes for Group companies
  • Experience of managing senior stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Great at stakeholder engagement with strong influencing skills and ability to quickly establish rapport with colleagues of all levels
  • Deadline driven with strong customer delivery mentality
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Excel
  • Able to demonstrate an active commitment to delivering and communicating the DOES values and principles of Co-operation.

Scope
  • Reports to: Head of Finance
  • Budgetary Control: N/A.
  • Key internal contacts are the wider finance team and certain business leads (level 8+) across all business functions
  • Key external contacts include the external auditor (BDO)
