This pivotal role will shape and drive workforce strategies to deliver outstanding services for both their council and traded customers.As the Head of Workforce Services, you will work in partnership with the Director of Workforce and Local Services to implement their People Strategy, ensuring a customer-centric approach focused on simplification and service excellence.Key Responsibilities
  • Recruitment and selection, including attraction, search, assessment, and offer.
  • Pre-employment checks, onboarding, and temporary agency contract management.
  • Employee relations, policy frameworks, and Trade Union engagement.
  • Apprenticeships, graduate placements, and workforce wellbeing initiatives.
  • Payroll and HR systems management for corporate and traded services.
  • Health and safety advice, training, and compliance monitoring.
About You
  • FCIPD qualification and significant experience at a senior level in a local authority or similar setting.
  • Proven expertise in leading workforce transformation programmes and implementing innovative people solutions.
  • Strong leadership and matrix management skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HR legislation, policy, and employment law.
  • A track record of commissioning, procurement, and contract management.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
