Section Engineer
ROLE PURPOSEÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
To Control of a section of the works, according to a specific discipline. Management of a team of Site Engineers within same discipline.
DIMENSIONS
FINANCIAL: Data Collection through on-site records (diary, photographs, file notes). Monitoring of Budget (including labour and plant in use in their section)
ORGANISATIONAL: Interfaces with other Section Engineers and manages a team of site engineers.
INTERFACES INTERNAL: Operations Team (all levels), Health and Safety Team, Commercial Team.
EXTERNAL: Subcontractors, Occasional interface with Client.
ACCOUNTABILITIESÂ Â Â Â Â
•             Support the delivery of the companies Sustainability activities
Health Safety & Environmental
•             Produces Method Statements and Risk Assessments and undertakes periodic reviews.
•             Prepares and raises Temporary Works Briefs, following up to ensure timely implementation
•             Carries out Visitors Induction
•             Completes Accident Book and associated reports as required. Able to undertake incident investigations to required standard.
•             Undertakes and mentors junior staff in safety audits
Engineering Control
•             Carry out complex setting out
•             Provision of ‘primary’ setting out control and recognizes the optimum location for installation
•             Coaches junior engineers in the use of setting out techniques
Quality
•             Produces Activity Control Plans / Inspection and Test Plans and obtains approval.
•             Uses the Specification for reference and coaches junior team members in using the Spec
•             Maintains a comprehensive filing system of quality records aligned to the Project Quality Handover requirements
•             Ensures that Site Engineers complete the required quality check sheets on a timely basis for the works
•             Identifies, raises and actions Non-Conformance Reports. Tracks close-out of NCRs within section.
•             Identifies and raises Technical Queries (RFIs) with possible solutions. Tracks closeout of RFIs within section.
Productivity
•             Produces a weekly programme and measures progress against KPI’s
•             Communicates weekly programme and targets to the workforce
•             Monitors as-built programme and reports reasons for difference.
•             Liaises with subcontractors to ensure works undertaken in line with weekly programme
Commercial
•             Maintains accurate diary, including dialogue with external organisations (subcontractors)
•             Collates Weekly Measure information and monitors wastage against budget allowances / KPI’s
•             Carries out a labour and plant reconciliation and supervises junior team members.
•             Identifies items of additional work and raises the necessary notifications
•             Works to specific terms, conditions and outputs of relevant subcontractors and suppliers
EXPERIENCE
•             Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately. Suggests improvements to systems
•             Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes with clarity.
•             Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights.
•             Able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility.
•             Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card. SSSTS or SMSTS qualified.
•             Must be a strong team player, with developed communication skills.
Health Safety & Environmental
•             Knowledge of Permit System and raises Permits to Work
•             Is able to identify potential hazards and is proactive in implementing actions and controls
•             Good level of Environmental Awareness
Engineering Control
•             Able to carry out complex setting out
•             Able to resolve issues with control and information provided.
•             Able to identify issues on drawings and suggest construction solutions.
Quality
•             Working knowledge and has experience of producing ACP
•             Independently drives the production of quality handover documentation and information.
•             Strong working knowledge of construction tolerances
•             Awareness of Specification and other Contract documents
Productivity
•             Usage experience and can use the information provided in the Stage Programme, disseminating this to the team.
•             Strong knowledge of construction process in one or more of the following areas: Earthworks/Drainage, Pavement, Comms, Structures, Roadworks.
Commercial
•             Good knowledge of key contract documentation and how to record additional work
•             Working scope of specific terms, conditions and outputs of relevant subcontractors and suppliers
•             Is prepared for required records for commercial recovery and supervises production of these by junior team members.

•             Good progression towards professional accreditation (e.g. ICE, IHT)
