We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Specialist Learning Mentor to join our Ofsted-rated Good college. You will play an essential role in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) and ensuring they have the resources and guidance they need to succeed. This role requires someone who is proactive, adaptable, and passionate about creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 in-class support or mentoring outside the classroom as directed by the SEN Team Leader or ASC Specialist Support Lead.
- Assist the class lecturer in preparing and adapting materials or activities to suit the needs of designated students.
- Actively promote independent learning, especially through the use of technology, empowering students to manage their learning.
- Serve as a key worker for designated students, helping them to reach their EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) outcomes.
- Support the EHCP Annual Review Process, working closely with the Specialist Support Lead.
- Collaborate with Personal Tutors or Personal Learning Advisers to monitor and review individual student targets.
- Communicate effectively with parents (with appropriate permissions), providing updates or addressing concerns as necessary.
- Troubleshoot and support students in managing deadlines and catching up on any missed work.
- Attend Academy and Inclusion Team meetings to contribute to the ongoing improvement of support services.
- Participate in training and development opportunities, including Team Teach and other relevant courses.
- Train and act as an invigilator and/or provide Human Support (Reader, Scribe, Prompt) during exams as required.
- Support students during work experience placements or trips, ensuring their needs are met in these environments.
- Complete administrative duties, including maintaining accurate records, completing ProMonitor updates, and providing progress reviews to tutors.
- Collaborate with college staff to produce Individual Risk Assessments, Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans, and Medical Protocols.
- Assist in the completion of exam access arrangements and support students with Medical Protocols.
Essential Qualifications:
- Must have a Level 2 qualification related to learning disabilities or an equivalent qualification.
