Our clients based near Portsmouth, are a manufacturing company specialising in the innovative design and production of electrical/electronics components.

They design and build their own production equipment, and this is a critical element of their engineering and manufacturing process. As a result, they are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Design engineer to design and develop special-purpose machines tailored for automating the assembly, inspection, and packaging processes of electrical connectors.

Main duties and responsibilities

- Design and develop special-purpose machines and automated systems used in the assembly, inspection, and packaging of electrical connectors.

- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, and quality assurance to define project requirements, specifications, and design criteria.

- Utilise advanced CAD software to create comprehensive mechanical designs, detailed drawings, and schematics for machine components and assemblies.

- Conduct thorough design reviews, feasibility studies, and analysis to ensure compliance with technical requirements, performance objectives, and industry standards.

- Evaluate and select appropriate materials, components, and technologies for integration into machine designs while considering cost, quality, and functionality.

- Provide technical assistance and mentorship to junior engineers, guiding them through the design process, problem-solving, and best practices in mechanical engineering.

- Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to procure components, equipment, and specialised services required for machine fabrication and integration.

- Stay informed about emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in mechanical design and automation to drive continuous improvement and innovation.

Experience required:

  • Mechanical design experience within manufacturing or industrial automated environment
  • Proven proficiency in CAD software
  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles, machine design, and manufacturing processes
  • Strong in writing technical project specifications and reports.
