This opportunity is one that I hope will capture your enthusiasm and I would like to thank you for your interest in this post. The Trustees are seeking to appoint a Science Technician to join our hardworking, committed and enthusiastic team. This position is a pivotal part of the delivery and support of the curriculum to enable the high standard of teaching and learning in the School and Sixth Form College.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing day to day technician support to facilitate pupils' and teachers' curriculum needs in the science department.

The role will require the successful candidates to liaise with the Teachers and Heads of Department as well as other members of the support staff. Previous experience of working in a science laboratory will be an advantage.

The successful applicant will be highly organised and possess good interpersonal skills. A high level of practical skills, technical knowledge and organisation ability are also essential. About The Role and Responsibilities:

Technical Services:

  • To undertake duties in specific practical areas, as specified by the Senior Science Technician and Head of Science having regard to the following list:
    • Preparing and setting up classroom equipment for practical lessons
    • Preparing and collating teaching materials and resources for use in practical lessons
    • During lessons, remaining on stand-by in classroom, laboratory or preparation rooms to be available to support teachers and assist with materials and demonstration experiments when needed constructional work, including making up some ancillary equipment for teaching aids
    • An awareness of health and safety issues ensuring pupils and colleagues remain safe at all times

About You:

Essential:

  • GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
  • Previous experience of working in a science laboratory
  • Sound administrator with attention to detail
  • Previous experience working with a range of software programmes, MIS and Microsoft applications
  • Articulate, literate and numerate
  • Organisational ability and able to manage time to prioritise deadlines
  • Appreciation of the issues working around young people and prepared to train to gain up to date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance in relation to working with, and the protection of children and young people
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills -verbal and written
  • Confidentiality and discretion
  • Use of initiative
  • Sense of Humour
  • Confidence and assertiveness
  • Ability to work In sympathy with the Catholic ethos of the school
  • Tidy and organised approach with attention to detail

The following would be desirable:

  • Level 3 qualifications
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Experience of working in an educational establishment (mixed comprehensive school)
  • Competent IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel packages (or a willingness to learn)

Please note all staff will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS application following the initial offer of employment.
