This position will be pivotal in leading one of the three Product Development pillars within the NPD/R&D department. It encompasses both strategic and hands-on responsibilities, involving collaboration with stakeholders and cross-functional teams. Additionally, you will oversee a small team, setting an example through active participation in laboratory work.

My client is dedicated to environmental sustainability and consumer well-being. Their natural household cleaning products were made out of necessity to avoid the toxins associated with most products on the shelf. Currently in a scale-up phase, they cultivate creativity and an entrepreneurial mindset, with plans to expand their NPD/R&D department. With head offices in central London and a laboratory manufacturing site in Watford, this role will involve working at both locations.
Description
In addition to developing new product formulations, the Sr. NPD Chemist/Manager will play a crucial role in guiding products from bench-top formulation to plant trials and, ultimately, to the consumer shelf. The Sr. NPD Chemist/Manager will also help establish best practices, manage databases, and expand a small team of NPD Chemists. Recommendations for laboratory expansion may also be required.
Some other responsibilities may include:
- Review and update process and procedures in line with regulation.
- Ensuring all appropriate documentation is in place prior to the manufacture of any product.
- Collaborating with QC, Production as well as internal teams-
- Provide action plans for continuous product and process improvement.
- Regularly review formulation costs setting this in context with external benchmark product
- Spotting and following market trends
Profile
- A Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, with a focus on surfactant chemistry.
- Industrial or organic cleaning formulation experience
- Household, personal care, fragrance and/or liquid /tablet sustainable sector industry experience
- Working knowledge of surfactants, essential oils, natural and raw material functionality
- Familiar with analytical techniques would be ideal
- A passion for environmentally sustainable product development and a desire to make a positive impact on the environment.
- Strong knowledge of green chemistry principles, biodegradable materials, and environmentally friendly product formulations.
- An innovative mindset and the ability to think outside the box to solve complex problems.
