Job Specification for BI Specialist/SQL Developer
We are seeking a skilled BI Specialist/SQL Developer on a contract basis to join a financial services company. This role is pivotal in transforming the reporting processes by leveraging modern BI tools and enhancing data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Report Transformation: Transition reports from legacy BI tools and MS Excel to modern reporting platforms, primarily Power BI.
- Automation & Efficiency: Develop automated reporting processes to allow business areas to focus on data analysis rather than report creation.
- Tool Selection: To optimise reporting efficiency and evaluate and recommend the most suitable BI tools for other business areas.
- Dashboard Creation: Design and generate insightful Power BI dashboards and other reporting outputs.
- Agile Methodology: Operate within Scrum or Kanban frameworks as required, ensuring flexibility and adaptability in project execution.
- Performance & Security: Implement best practice performance optimization and security measures across all reporting tools.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with stakeholders through workshops to swiftly and effectively gather reporting requirements.
- Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of report creation processes and methodologies on Confluence.
Required Skills
- BI / Reporting Expertise: Proven experience as a BI and Reporting Developer.
- Power BI: Proficiency in using Power BI is essential.
- T-SQL & Database Skills: Strong skills in T-SQL, including the creation of stored procedures and functions.
Ideal Skills
- Power Query: Experience with Power Query is highly desirable.
- SSRS/SSIS: Familiarity with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) is beneficial.
- Excel: Advanced skills in Excel for data manipulation and reporting.
- Alteryx, SAS, Spotfire: Experience with these tools is a plus, but not mandatory.
