An exciting opportunity is available for a Yard Operative to join a busy builders’ merchant at a Watford-based branch. The role involves playing a vital part in daily operations, maintaining warehouse organisation, and ensuring a safe, efficient working environment.

Requirements:

  • A valid counterbalance forklift license is essential, as the role involves handling and moving building materials

  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Strong communication and customer care skills

  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations

  • Previous experience working in an outdoor environment or a similar role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely load and unload delivery vehicles using a forklift, ensuring materials are stored appropriately

  • Maintain yard stock, ensuring materials are kept in designated areas for easy access

  • Assist customers with loading and unloading materials, providing excellent service and advice

  • Comply with all health and safety regulations, keeping the yard clean and free of hazards

  • Conduct routine checks on forklifts and other yard equipment, reporting maintenance issues as necessary

  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth yard operations and timely deliveries

  • Carry out other assigned tasks, including manual handling and general site maintenance
