SEMH - Secondary School SEN Teaching Assistant

The school is located in the Watford area and the special needs co-ordinator wants to interview and recruit an SEMH Teaching Assistant as soon as possible. It is a friendly and welcoming school which are continuously striving for improvement and have a high percentage of SEN pupils. The school believe that every child has the ability to succeed regardless of background and challenges they face and they are seeking someone to help nurture their pupils and share their ethos.

If you are a graduate of Psychology, come from a profession with transferrable skills or have experience of working with children with challenging behaviours through social work or care work, you would be welcomed to apply for the role. Equally if you are an existing Teaching Assistant with specific behavioural experience we would encourage you to apply.

Experience of working with challenging behaviours is highly desirable but transferrable skills and professions will also be considered.

Supporting behaviour and inclusion within a Secondary School

This opportunity for a Behaviour - SEMH Teaching Assistant will involve:

  • supporting pupils with barriers to learning, who display challenging behaviour
  • Supporting children on a 1:1 or small group basis, as a learning support assistant
  • Show a calm, caring and nurturing approach as building positive relationships is key to improving behaviour and supporting the children within the school
  • Working closely with the class teacher to enable pupils to progress and plan accordingly to achieve this together
