Programme Overview
They operates a 2-tier ERP strategy; Tier 1 uses SAP to execute manufacturing related transactions (e.g. Plan to Make) globally and commercial transactions (e.g. Order to Cash, Record to Report) in North America, Europe and ANZ. Tier 2 (ROW Commercial) leverages Microsoft technology and is out of scope of this programme.
The most important Ortho MFG plant runs a version of SAP (R/3) obsolete for over 10 years and with increasing operational risk. A majority of the remaining MFG and COM estate operates using an aging and now superseded version of SAP (ECC6, but which is in support until 2030) all of which impedes their ability to innovate and leverage new functionality required by business. Its important to note that significant number of plants run on non SAP as well. They only have 2 plants (Penang, Austin) using the latest version of SAP (S/4 on HANA, ’MP1’) with another (Melton) planned.
They are undertaking a multi-year Global ERP Program, called "LEAP", to deliver a standard set of business processes underpinned by the implementation of a common/single SAP S4 Hana business across the global core business functions of Manufacturing Operations and Commercial businesses. It will leverage the investment into Malaysia and Austin operations that already exist with our current S4 HANA environment.
The program will provide a major step change in capabilities, by creating a platform which will strategically enable the business to address major pain points such as harmonized business processes and data driving towards a single source of truth.
