They pride themselves on their customer-centric approach and are currently looking to expand their team with a driven and detail-oriented Senior BTL Mortgage Underwriter.Role Overview:As a Senior BTL Mortgage Underwriter, you will play a critical role in assessing and approving loan applications. You will assess complex and high-value cases, providing clear, reasoned recommendations and ensuring each case meets the necessary criteria. Your responsibilities will include reviewing documentation, liaising with various stakeholders, and maintaining high standards of service. You will also manage a caseload, provide feedback to Underwriting Case Managers, and ensure all cases are processed efficiently from inception through to offer.Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and assess applications referred by Underwriting Case Managers, providing clear documentation on whether the case should be approved or declined.
  • Provide real-time feedback to Underwriting Case Managers on each case and contribute to daily, weekly, and monthly reporting.
  • Underwrite and assess loan documentation, including valuation reports, for complex or high-value cases, requesting additional information from brokers as needed and addressing any concerns.
  • Conduct thorough checks on applicants and properties to ensure suitability for the requested loan.
  • Proactively follow up on outstanding information from third parties and provide timely updates to introducers, ensuring a seamless process and excellent service.
  • Recommend and refer cases to the relevant mandate holders for final approval.
  • Coordinate with introducers, valuers, and solicitors, managing cases from inception to offer.
  • Update internal systems to maintain accurate management information and reporting.
Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong understanding of business risk and the underwriting process.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage a busy caseload.
  • Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management abilities and ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant systems.
  • Ability to pass internal competency tests following induction.
Knowledge & Qualifications:
  • Experience in the secured lending sector, particularly within the mortgage industry.
  • In-depth understanding of the underwriting process and the ability to assess cases for approval.
  • Previous experience managing a caseload and underwriting mortgage applications, especially in the Buy-to-Let (BTL) market, is beneficial.
  • Industry-relevant qualifications (e.g., CeMAP) are desirable but not essential.
